The Isolation of Vibrio choleræ from Non-Cholera Individuals

چکیده
Although there are many records 01 the finding of vibrios in the stools of healthy individuals, there is no means of establishing whether the strains isolated were those conforming to the vibrio now generally accepted as Vibrio cholerce. Recent work on the antigenic structure of vibrios has shown that V. cholerce possesses a specific ' 0 ' antigen and that the thermo-labile ' H ' antigen is shared by a large group of vibrios. The important practical application of these findings is that, because of this inter-relationship that exists between V. cholerce and certain other vibrios through

Tomb and Maitra (1926) as a result of their investigations concluded that the agglutinable vibrio found in the dejecta of cholera patients, and the non-agglutinable vibrio found in carriers and in natural waters contaminated with human faeces are one and the same organism. They arrived at this conclusion after inseminating tanks* with fresh cholera stools containing large numbers of agglutinabl...

Workers who have examined the viability of Vibrio cholera? in water are agreed that whereas the vibrio can live for a short time in untreated natural waters, it survives for longer periods in samples that had been previously boiled. Hankin (1896) attributed the bactericidal effect to the acid reaction of the river waters. d'Herelle (1926) suggested that the disappearance of vibrios from natural...

Cholera outbreak is more common in developing countries. The causative agent of the disease is Vibrio cholerae strains O1 and O139. Traditional diagnostic testing for Vibrio is not always reliable, because Vibrio can enter a viable but non cultivable state. Therefore, nucleic acid-based tests have emerged as a useful alternative to traditional enrichment testing. In this investigation, a...

Backgrounds and Objectives: True cholera with typical clinical features nearly always occurs by serologic groups O1 and O139 but the non-O1 group can produce a disease with same clinical characteristic sporadically. According to the important of climate and environmental conditions in the distribution and abundance of Vibrio cholera, in this study, the distribution of the serologic group was ev...

Introduction: Vibrio cholera is a gram-negative bacterium that causes cholera which is an acute diarrheal illness. Cholera outbreak mostly happens in hot seasons when the bacteria reproduce rapidly in water contaminated with feces. Severe diarrhea and mortality have been the prevalent symptoms of cholera which affect the hygienic status and economic features of humans during centuries. There is...
